Equatorial Guinea: UN Human Rights Chief Calls on Government to Stop Torture and Combat Impunity

(Washington DC, Jan 8, 2020)  On the same day EG Justice received this video, which appears to depict plain-clothed security officers publicly torturing an individual, we received the attached copy of the letter sent by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, addressed to theMinister of Foreign Affairs, and to the Minister in charge of Human Rights.

 

The letter calls on the Government of Equatorial Guinea to uphold its obligations arising from ratified UN treaties, and to implement the recommendations it accepted at the recent Universal periodic Review of that nation.  Notably, the letter calls on the government to halt torture and combat impunity
